Many people are asking how do I get the employer to stop taking money for taxes that I don't owe?
1st let's look at the forms they want you to fill out.
The IRS uses digital codes designation, such as the number 2 "Individual Income Tax, Fiduciary Income Tax, Partnership return".
- Form Number W–2, Wage and tax statement, Tax Class code 5
- Form Number W–4, Employees Withholding Certificate, Tax Class code 5
- Form Number 1099, Miscellaneous, Miscellaneous income, Tax Class code 5
- Form Number 1040, US Individual Income Tax Return, Tax Class 2, 6
-
Regarding the Tax Class, let us decipher what the definitions of the codes represent:
Tax Class 2 – Individual Income Tax, Fiduciary Income Tax, Partnership return.
Tax Class 5 – Information Return Processing, Estate and Gift Tax.
Tax Class 6 – NMF (Non-Master File)
If you are fortunate enough that you can sit down with the people you work for and explain what the forms are to be used for, obviously the relationship between you and the employer is not about any estate and you have no intentions of offering, voluntarily, any gifts.
Now here's the kicker! There is a form on the list, in the 6209 manual, W-4E titled, Exemption from Withholding Allowance Certificate, Tax Class 5
So what I would do, and I did, is ask your employer, being that your pushing a form for me to sign and I want exemption from that please provide me with a W-4E form for me to sign.
